In cooperation with the Wyoming State Engineer, the USGS conducted a study of the water resources of Sweetwater County, Wyoming. This study followed the general plan of previous "County Studies". Surface water and ground water resources were evaluated through a combined approach that analyzed and summarized existing data and, as a consequence of the data analysis, identified key data gaps and attempted, on a limited basis, to collect new data to fill those gaps. The study, a 3-year effort, began in 2001 and culminated in the publication of a Scientific Investigations Report (SIR) that describes the quantity and quality of the surface and ground water resources of the county (SIR 2004-5214).
