1/24/2013 - MISAWA AIR BASE, JAPAN -- The Military Personnel Data System is scheduled to undergo upgrades Air Force wide Mar. 4 to Mar. 27, 2013. After the upgrade, the system will be run by the Defense Information Systems Agency's Defense Enterprise Computing Center.

The upgrade to MilPDS will bring the system down for around 23 days and will improve system sustainability and reliability, while the transfer to DISA DECC will ensure better data security.

Due to the system going down, there are certain actions you need to take care of at the 35th Force Support Squadron military personnel section or the Air Force Personnel Center before the system goes down for upgrades in March.

"Some actions and applications will need to be input earlier than usual," said Master Sgt. Naomie Gall, 35 FSS/MPS superintendent. "If you are changing duty stations, retiring or re-enlisting, then you need to take care of these things before the system goes down for upgrades. These are some of the more important actions people need to worry about before MilPDS goes down," she added.

Keeping these actions in mind, there are deadlines that need to be met to make sure that all personnel actions are taken care of smoothly.

Jan. 31, 2012 - Oral Proficiency Interview test for foreign language proficiency bonus must be scheduled and into the 35 FSS/MPS

Feb. 1, 2013 - Base of preference or in-place base of preference applications must be into the AFPC

Feb. 15, 2013 - Re-enlistment, extension or separation applications must be submitted to the 35 FSS/MPS

Feb. 15, 2013 - Voluntary retraining applications must be turned into the AFPC

Feb. 15, 2013 - Defense language proficiency test for foreign language proficiency bonus applications must be into the 35 FSS/MPS.

Feb. 15, 2013 - Updates to service member's group life insurance must be into both the 35 FSS/MPS and the AFPC

Although MilPDS will be down for around 23 days, the MPS is taking the proper steps to prepare for the upgrades. These steps include tests done at several bases Air Force wide and the MPS putting everyone's information into their own zipped folder.

Gall said if you want a backup plan, go to the Virtual Military Personnel Flight on the Air Force Portal and print all your information. If you want you can also download it onto a zipped folder if you want to play it safe. Gall added having this on record is never a bad thing anyway, even if MilPDS wasn't going down.

If you have questions or concerns you can log onto https://mypers.af.mil/ or call the 35 FSS/MPS at 226-4002.
