NIOSH Fire Fighter Fatality Investigation and Prevention Program
The NIOSH Fire Fighter Fatality Investigation and Prevention Program (FFFIPP) identifies factors that cause or contribute to fire fighter deaths suffered in the line of duty. The program does not seek to determine fault or place blame on fire departments or individual fire fighters; rather, FFFIPP information is used by researchers and safety specialists to develop strategies to prevent these line-of-duty deaths, including those cause by ground ambulance crashes.

Focusing on all fatal occupational injuries nationwide, the NIOSH Fatality Assessment and Control Evaluation (FACE) Program indentifies high-risk work situations, formulates incident prevention strategies, and disseminates this information to individuals in the workplace who are in a position to implement change.
