Professor Bruce Jakosky studies the surfaces and atmospheres of planets, the evolution of atmospheres, and the possibility of life on other planets. His current work investigates Martian atmospheric evolution on billion-year timescales, as well as the seasonal cycles and surface-atmosphere exchange of volatiles, and, of course, possible Martian biota. Jakosky and his team utilize stable isotopes in the Martian environment to indicate the efficiency of evolution and possible biological processes. Jakosky currently studies the geochemical processes on Mars a source of energy to support possible life. He currently serves as an Interdisciplinary Scientist for Surface-Atmosphere interactions for the Mars Global Surveyor. In addition to his research interests, Bruce maintains a profound interest in the philosophical aspects of astrobiology.
