1/29/2013 - MCCONNELL AIR FORCE BASE, Kan. -- With tax season here, the McConnell Tax Center is again opening its doors to assist military members and eligible family members, reservists and retirees prepare their income tax returns.

Sponsored by the staff judge advocate, the tax center offers free advice, assistance, preparation and electronic filing of federal and state income tax returns through the Internal Revenue Service's Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program.

"I consider the tax center to be an important community service program," said Col. Ricky Rupp, 22nd Air Refueling Wing commander. "This valued and important service is not possible without volunteers and support."

Last year, the tax center helped Airmen and beneficiaries file nearly 1,400 tax returns, saving clients more than $300,000 in tax preparation costs and earning the McConnell community more than $3.5 million in tax refunds.

"We hope to exceed last year's numbers," said Tech. Sgt. Regina Page, 22nd Air Refueling Wing Judge Advocate general law NCO in charge.

The tax center is open to all active duty members, dependents, retirees and Air Force civilians and is located on the first floor of Building 750. It will open Jan. 30 to April 13, 2013. Appointments are necessary.

"This service is free of charge," said Lt. Col. John Smith, 22nd ARW staff judge advocate. "Our trained, certified tax center volunteers are happy to assist."

For information about required documents or to schedule an appointment, call (316) 759-2488.
