DOT Biz Journal Fall 2010

OSDBU is pleased to make the Fall Edition of the DOT Biz Journal available for download. In this issue we highlight the release of the Small Business Administration’s (SBA) Annual Scorecard in which they report on the success of all Federal agencies in awarding contracts to companies in five different small business categories. We are pleased to announce that for the fourth straight year, DOT met or surpassed their goals for four of the five small business categories. We also have a recap of the most recent OSDBU Vendor Day held on November 18th at DOT Headquarters in Washington, DC. This event, attended by over 250 people travelling from as far as California, Texas, and Washington State featured remarks by Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood, Christopher Lu, Assistant to the President and Cabinet Secretary, and OSDBU Director Brandon Neal, as well as a roundtable discussion by successful small business owners and a networking session with procurement officials at the various DOT Operating Administrations.

Other articles include a summary of the recently published rule by the SBA creating the Women Owned Small Business contracting program, an overview of the Small Business Jobs Act which was signed into law by President Obama in October, and highlights of other recent OSDBU program activities including the expansion of the Women and Girls Internship Program to colleges and universities nationwide and the addition of the West Central Region to the Small Business Transportation Resource Center program helping to broaden the scope of services offered to the small business community across the country.

In addition we have our regular features including Follow the Recovery Money and the upcoming Calendar of Events.
