Spotlights: Conservation Conversations for Healthy Soil
October 15, 2012
Working with conservation partner Dr. Robin 'Buz' Kloot of the Earth Sciences
and Resources Institute, University of South Carolina, members of the
National
Soil Health and Sustainability Team, North Carolina NRCS staff, Earth Team volunteers, and farmers are featured in
Conservation Conversations sponsored by NRCS's
East National Technology Support
Center (ENTSC), Greensboro, NC. Using demonstration plantings, interviews,
case studies, and lectures, viewers learn about conservation practices and basic
soil health concepts that result in healthy soil and sustainable agriculture.
Additionally,
"Innovative No-Till: Using Multi-Species Cover Crops to Improve Soil Health,"
a video featuring Jay Fuhrer, North Dakota NRCS and Susan Tallman, National
Sustainable Agriculture Information Service, emphasizes crop
diversity in no-till systems to improve soil health and increase productivity.
Watch, enjoy, and learn about soil health, cover crops, and crop diversity concepts
by viewing the videos below.
Cover Crops and Crop Diversity
Follow our Under Cover Farmers to learn how three farmers in Stanly County, NC,
started using multispecies cover crops and how they were able to realize
economic returns on their investment in the first year. (The opinions expressed
in this video are those of the farmers and do not necessarily reflect the
opinion of USDA.)
