Ways and Means Committee Ranking Member Sander Levin (D-MI) today made the following statement welcoming three returning members to the Ways and Means Committee in the 113th Congress.

On January 1, Congress overwhelmingly approved legislation to avert the fiscal cliff, keep income taxes low for middle class families and break the iron barrier that for far too long has prevented additional revenue from the very wealthy. The agreement is vital for our nation’s economic well-being and for its standing as the world’s most important economy.

Ways and Means Committee Ranking Member Sander Levin and Chairman Dave Camp, along with Trade Subcommittee Ranking Member Jim McDermott and Chairman Kevin Brady have introduced the “U.S. Job Creation and Manufacturing Competitiveness Act of 2013”.

In the 113th Congress Democrats will continue to oppose the Republican plan that calls for an end to the Medicare guarantee. The Republican proposal will ration care by turning Medicare beneficiaries over to private insurers with no guarantee of a defined benefit package and drastically increasing beneficiary costs.
