Bahrain Human Rights Society Hosts Training of Trainers Program in Women’s Rights

Dr. Netham Assaf from the Amman Centre for Human Rights Studies with participants

The Bahrain Human Rights Society (BHRS), in cooperation with the Jordan-based Amman Center for Human Rights Studies (ACHRS) and the Middle East Partnership Initiative (MEPI), is hosting an eight-day regional workshop during 2-10 October, 2009 at the Ramee International Hotel in Bahrain.  The workshop will equip 15 trainers from across the Middle East with the tools to develop the capacity of human rights activists in their home countries.

The workshops will provide an introduction to basic human rights and the mechanisms in place to protect them, with a particular focus on women's issues.  The trainers will also examine how NGOs can contribute to promoting equality between men and women in their respective countries.

The eight-day workshop is the first of two phases.  In the second phase, participants will learn how to conduct presentations in front of a live audience and will receive feedback aimed at improving their teaching skills.  After the training is complete, BHRS plans to establish and maintain a network of trainers on women's rights by recruiting the first 15 program participants as core members.
