Student Leaders

On April 12, the U.S. Embassy hosted a screening of the documentary film "Working Title," which explores the role of artists in American society and both the challenges and rewards of pursuing art as a career.   The small group of attendees included 2010 alumni of the Middle East Partnership Initiative (MEPI) Student Leaders Program, as well as newly selected MEPI participants who will attend the program in summer 2011.  The film screening was followed by a group discussion about art and society, as well as the challenges both Bahrainis and Americans face in selecting an appropriate career path after university.

The MEPI Student Leaders program is an intensive 5- 6 week exchange program to the United States for 70 to 90 students from the Middle East and North Africa. Students develop leadership skills, expand their understanding of civil society, and learn how both may be applied in their home communities. Participants have the opportunity to meet their American peers, engage in local community service activities, and observe and take part in the governmental process on the local, state, and federal levels.
