Drawing Competition Focuses on Integration (January 6, 2010)

The Middle East Partnership Initiative (MEPI) partner, Freedom House, coordinated with the Bahrain Association for Parents and Friends of the Disabled and the Ministry of Education to sponsor One World, One Dream, a drawing competition for students that promotes inclusion and acceptance of people with disabilities.  Over 50 Bahraini students submitted drawings focused on fully integrating Bahrainis with disabilities into society. 

On January 6, Ambassador Ereli, Minister of Education, Dr. Majid Bin Ali Al Nuaimi, and President of the Bahrain Association for Parents and Friends of the Disabled, Jassim Seyadi, awarded certificates to the twelve winners, whose drawings will be included in a 2010 calendar.

Since 2006, the U.S. Embassy has facilitated a strong relationship between disabled communities in the U.S. and Bahrain.  MEPI, in cooperation with partner organization Freedom House, provided training to disabled Bahrainis and parents and teachers of disabled to children on promoting the rights of disabled persons.  Additionally, the Embassy has facilitated and funded exchanges of disabled students and professionals in both countries.
