Fulbrighters Study Geography, Education, Food Culture, and Pearl Trade

Fulbrighters with Ambassador Ereli

Four American Fulbright Students and Scholars are currently in Bahrain during the 2009/2010 academic year pursuing a range of research interests that include Cultural Geography, Teacher Education, Bahraini Food Culture, and the Evolution of the Bahraini Pearl Trade.

Ambassador Adam Ereli met with the group and commented on the importance of the Fulbright program in strengthening the relationship between the U.S. and Bahrain.  "The Fulbright program allows Bahrainis and Americans to engage in meaningful and constructive dialogue.  The scholars who participate from both countries serve as cultural ambassadors and help deepen our understanding of each other," said Ambassador Ereli.

The Fulbright Students and Scholars commented on their warm welcome by the Bahrainis they have met, the insights they are gaining into Bahraini culture, and their appreciation of being able to study, teach, and conduct research in Bahrain.

Since 1946 the Fulbright program has been providing opportunities for students and scholars from across the globe to engage in academic exchange programs.  It is the flagship program sponsored by the United States and is designed to increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of other countries.  The Fulbright program provides participants - chosen for their academic merit and leadership potential - with an opportunity to study, teach and conduct research, exchange ideas and contribute to finding solutions to shared international concerns.  In addition to the American cohort in Bahrain, there are currently 10 Bahraini Fulbrighters on programs in the United States.
