Information Resource Center (IRC)

General Information

The Information Resource Center (IRC) is an integral part of the Public Affairs Section of U.S. Consulate General in Almaty. The IRC offers information and provides research services on all aspects of American political, social, and cultural life.

Reference Collection

The reference collection at the IRC consists of about 1,000 volumes including encyclopedias, atlases, handbooks, almanacs, and yearbooks. The IRC provides information on current events as well as biographical data, statistics, and bibliographic information on a wide range of subjects.

Online Databases

The IRC also has online access to several commercial databases, including Factiva — an online collection of more than 6,000 newswires, magazines, and trade journals; Lexis-Nexis — the largest online database of law, news and country profiles; the Federal News Service, and eLibraryUSA.   eLibraryUSA is an online library which provides members of the Information Resource Center with access to a broad range of over 30 online resources and databases, including resources about English language learning, study and travel to the United States, U.S. historical and cultural information, civil society, business and entrepreneurship, and science and technology.
