Welcome to the U.S. Consulate General, Almaty.

The U.S. Consulate General in Almaty – the only U.S. consulate in Central Asia – was inaugurated in December 2009.  U.S. Consulate General Almaty currently consists of several State Department sections, including the Consular, Public Affairs and Political/Economic Sections, as well as the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Central Asia Regional Mission, the Centers for Disease Control, the Drug Enforcement Administration, and the Foreign Commercial Service.  The Peace Corps’ Kazakhstan Mission is also headquartered in Almaty.  The Consul General’s consular district encompasses the four southern-most regions, or oblasts, of Kazakhstan, though various Consulate agencies and sections have a broader geographical mandate.

U.S Consulate General Almaty works with the Kazakhstani government on a wide range of bilateral and regional issues including, but not limited to, trade, commerce, democracy, humanitarian assistance, health, counter-narcotics and the environment. The U.S. Consulate General also provides services for American citizens in Kazakhstan via the American Citizen Services of the Consular Section and American businesses receive support from the Foreign Commercial Service.
