advocacy news
The Macedonian government recently decided to force private pension fund management companies to prematurely sell their Macedonian Eurobonds set to mature in 2015. Given that the funds have been the primary buyers of these Eurobonds up to this point, this sudden and radical sale will cause millions of Euros in book value losses, which will accrue directly to the roughly 300.000 individual citizen investors. It is also likely to make these instruments less attractive to other investors, making it more costly for the country to finance its debt on external markets in the future.
