Immigrant Visas

You may qualify to immigrate to the United States if you are:

  • A spouse or immediate relative of an American citizen or legal permanent resident
  • The fiancé of an American citizen
  • A prospective employee of an employer in the United States
  • Selected through the Diversity Visa (DV) lottery program

All prospective immigrants except for DV candidates must have a petition filed on their behalf.  The “petitioner” is the person or company who files the petition, and the “beneficiary” is the prospective immigrant.

For more information on each of these categories of immigrants, please visit the Visa Services page of the Department of State’s Bureau of Consular Affairs.

Please note:  the following persons may accompany a visa applicant during Consular-related visits:

  • Special Needs Visitors:  Applicants who have special needs due to a physical disability may be accompanied by ONE person.  An adult may also be admitted if appearing on behalf of an applicant who is a minor child.
  • Due to space limitations, only applicants with scheduled appointments for visa interviews will be allowed inside the waiting rooms.  American Citizen immigrant visa petitioners and all other non-applicants must remain outside.

New USCIS Immigrant Fee:  Effective February 1, 2013, all individuals (with several exceptions, please see the website for more information) issued immigrant visas overseas must pay a $165.00 USCIS Immigrant Fee before traveling to the United States.  Please visit the following websites for more details on the new fee, including contact information for USCIS, if there are further questions:
