  • Reminder for U.S. Citizens during Carnival

    The U.S. Embassy in Panama City reminds U.S. citizens that as the Carnival holiday approaches in Panama next week, there are several precautions U.S. citizens in Panama may take in order to ensure a safe and secure holiday. 

  • Security Message Update 2 - Martyrs' Day in Panama - January 8, 2013

    As an update to the previously released message regarding a Martyrs’ Day march, the U.S. Embassy has learned that the march has been rescheduled for Wednesday, January 9, at 1600 hours from Ancon Hill to the memorial at the old Balboa High School. A ceremony will also reportedly take place at 0900 at the memorial.

    This is a update from the earlier message sent concerning the Martyrs’ Day March that will take place on Monday, January 7, 2013. We have learned that the march will conclude at the old Balboa High School near the Panama Canal Administration Building rather than the Balboa Academy location in Ciudad Saber. 

  • Security Message - Martyrs' Day in Panama - January 3rd, 2013

    Martyrs' Day is a Panamanian holiday which commemorates the January 9, 1964 riots over sovereignty of the Panama Canal Zone. The incident is considered to be a significant factor in the U.S. decision to transfer control of the Canal Zone to Panama through the 1977 Torrijos-Carter Treaties.

    This Emergency message is to alert U.S. citizens residing and traveling in Panama that throughout the morning of October 26th, various groups have held protests at multiple locations throughout Panama City.

Up to date information on security can also be obtained by calling 1-888-407-4747 toll free in the United States, or, for callers outside the United States and Canada, a regular toll line at 1-202-501-4444. These numbers are available from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time, Monday through Friday (except U.S. federal holidays).
