Welcome from the Director

The Geotechnical and Structures Laboratory (GSL) is part of the Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC), which is the integrated research and development (R&D) organization for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. ERDC develops innovative science and technology solutions to support warfighting, disaster operations, infrastructure, the environment, and water resources. The professionals of ERDC's seven diverse laboratories are some of the world's best in their areas of expertise.

GSL's particular mission toward servicing the Army and Nation is to provide R&D solutions to challenges in geotechnical and structural engineering and related disciplines. GSL's 360-plus team members represent a wide variety of disciplines, ranging from civil engineers, to geologists, to physicists. A highly skilled support staff of technicians and assistants help the research staff in the everyday details of conducting R&D.

Our organization is fully committed to focusing GSL resources and capabilities on meeting our customers' needs and relentlessly pursuing technical leadership in our mission areas.

I take pride in welcoming you to GSL's Web site, which I hope you will find both informative and enjoyable. Thank you for taking time to discover what the ERDC Geotechnical and Structures Laboratory has to offer.
