The U.S. Flag

This section of the U.S. Embassy website contains links to a broad range of information from the U.S. State Department and about life and culture in the United States.

More information from U.S. government and links to various U.S. government departments can be found in Useful Links in our Press section.

Teachers should be aware of the Fulbright Roving Scholar program, which sponsors American Studies seminars at elementary and upper secondary schools in Norway. They should also know that there is an essential organization created expressly for teachers/scholars of American Studies in Norway: ASANOR, the American Studies Association of Norway. The embassy also hosts school classes through our Meet America program.

For English teachers, Stewart Clark's web portal "English Matters" is a treasure trove. Although the site is weighted towards British English, there is much that will be of interest to all teachers of English in Norway, including resources on style, vocabulary, grammar, self-study, dictionaries and translation tools, and many other language and reference resources.

Note also the electronic journals created by the publication division of the State Department's Office of International Information Programs. These are excellent teaching aids that cover a wide variety of topics such as sports, foodways, education, U.S. self-image, etc. Some of these publications are also available in hardcopy and may be obtainable from the U.S. embassy - direct inquiries to osloirc@state.gov.
