Citizenship Information

We can only provide consular services to U.S. citizens. In order to receive consular services, every person must provide proof of citizenship and proof of identity. A U.S. passport provides proof of both citizenship and identity. A U.S. Certificate of Naturalization provides proof of ciziten and may provide proof of identity.

Other citizenship documents are: an original or certified copy of a U.S. birth certificate or a Consular Report of Birth Abroad. NOTE: Driver's licenses, Social Security cards, and voter registration cards are NOT proof of citizenship.

Other acceptable identity evidence includes any U.S. federal or state government photo identification.

Further information on acceptable documentation is available from the Bureau of Consular Affairs' passport information website by scrolling down to the section entitled "To Apply in Person for a US Passport."
