Adding Visa Pages

The Consulate can add 24 additional visa pages to a U.S. passport. You must make an appointment to add pages to your passport. We require applicants to complete the application form online, print it and bring it to the appointment.

Passports will be available for pickup on the same day after 3:00p.m. You may also mail your passport and signed forms (using the same procedure as for renewing an adult passport by mail). The passport holder (or the holder's parents in the case of a minor under age 16) must sign the application if the form and passport are delivered to the American Citizens Services Unit. If applying in person, sign the form in the presence of the consular officer.

Name Changes and Other Amendments

Department of State regulations do not allow applicants to request passport amendments to change any of the following:

• Name - includes changes from marriage or other legal name changes
• Sex
• Date of Birth
• Place of Birth
• Passport Validity

If any of this information has changed or is incorrect, you must apply for a new passport. A new passport to correct or change any of the data on the face page of the passport is free of charge if requested within one year of the passport's issuance.

To request a free replacement passport within one year of issuance for a name change or to correct any of the other data contained on the passport's face page, the applicant should complete Form DS-5504 "U.S. Passport Re-Application" online, print it and bring it to the interview.

If more than one year has passed since the passport was issued, the applicant must follow the normal passport renewal procedures, paying the full renewal fee to obtain a replacement passport.

If you travel frequently and anticipate needing additional pages, you may also request a 52-page passport at the time of renewal.

If you expect your mail-in application to reach the Consulate on or after December 3, 2012 please call us on +91 22 2672 4000 and ask for the American Citizen Services to verify the correct exchange rate.  If applying in person, you may pay with cash dollars, cash rupees (at the current consular exchange rate), demand draft or a major U.S. credit card. Personal checks are not accepted.

Passport Processing Time

Except in emergencies, passports are printed in the United States and take approximately 7-10 days. Please consider this timeline when renewing or applying for passports. You will receive an automated email when your passport is ready.

Passport delivery arrangements

U.S. Consulate General, Mumbai is pleased to provide courier delivery services for Consular Reports of Birth Abroad (CRBA) and U.S. passports.  This service will allow for timely tracking and fast delivery of your documents.  Please carefully read the instructions below to arrive at your appointment prepared. 

1. At the Consulate, you will be asked to purchase a courier envelope in the lobby for INR 300. The fee may be paid by cash or demand draft in favor of "First Flight Couriers LTD."  Drafts can be drawn on any nationalized or foreign bank operating in India. Drafts of co-operative banks are not accepted at this time. Along with your payment, you will also be asked to submit a completed  courier slip (PDF 176KB).
2. Once your CRBA or U.S. passport application is processed, the ACS Unit will return a sealed courier envelope containing your CRBA or U.S. passport to First Flight.
3. Once your CRBA or U.S. passport reaches First Flight, you will be able to check the status of your delivery on First Flight’s website.
4. You will receive a receipt from First Flight with the return of your CRBA or U.S. passport.  If you opt to pick up your CRBA or passport in person, you may do so on Thursdays between 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.  You do not need an appointment to pick up your CRBA or U.S. passport.  Please check our holiday calendar.

IMPORTANT NOTE:  If you are submitting your passport renewal application by mail and would like to have your new passport couriered to you, please submit a courier slip (PDF 176KB) and an additional bank draft for INR 300 payable to "First Flight Couriers LTD."  Bank drafts for courier fees can be drawn on any nationalized or foreign bank operating in India.  Drafts of co-operative banks are not accepted at this time.
