Ask the Consul

Hello from Reynosa! I’d like to apply for a visa at the U.S. Consulate General in Matamoros, but does that mean I have to first go to the ASC [Applicant Service Center] in Matamoros before going to the visa interview at the Consulate?

I’m glad you asked!  For all of our friends in and around Reynosa, I’m happy to announce that a new Applicant Service Center (Centro de Atención a Solicitantes—“CAS”) has just opened up in your area! The new Reynosa ASC opened its doors on June 13, 2012, and is located at Plaza Las Americas Locales 14-17 Blvd. Miguel Aleman #103 in Reynosa, Tamaulipas.

The ASC Reynosa will provide the same services as the ASC Matamoros, including biometric fingerprinting, digital photo capturing, and visa renewal application submissions.

To get started, applicants need to fill out an online application athttps://ceac.state.gov/genniv (select “Spanish” in the upper right-hand corner), pay appropriate visa processing fee (by credit card online or by telephone, or with cash at any Scotiabank or Banamex location), and then schedule an appointment at  any ASC in Mexico online at www.usvisa-info.com or by telephone at 868 812 6118 or 868 800 3030. Please note, aside from the visa processing fee, there are no additional fees for appointments at the ASC or at the U.S. Consulate General.  Courier service for the delivery of visas/passports is also included in the original fee.

Of course, all decisions regarding the actual issuance of a visa will continue to be made by our U.S. Consular Officers at the U.S. Consulate General in Matamoros.
