Meet the Visa Office
Amanda Thompson is a licensed attorney who practiced business immigration law for more than 10 years at two of the U.S.’s largest law firms as well as her own firm, before coming to Fermilab in 2007. She co-authored “Business Immigration Law: Forms and Filings,” a treatise published by the Law Journal Press in December 2005 (updated twice annually), and co-edited and co-authored "Business Immigration Law: Strategies for Employing Foreign Nationals," a treatise published by the Law Journal Press in October 2000 (also updated twice annually). She has written and published a variety of smaller articles on a number of different immigration-related topics, and speaks on immigration topics at national and local conferences and round-table meetings. Amanda is a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association, and a member of its Scholars and Students Committee. She was born in Edinburgh, Scotland, and grew up in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. She has lived in the U.S. since 1994.
Samantha Poeppelman graduated from the University of Kentucky with a Bachelor’s Degree in International Studies, minoring in Islamic Studies and Spanish. As part of her degree, she studied abroad in Morocco, Africa for six months. She also interned with the Fullbright Foreign Student Program in Washington, D.C., and worked throughout her degree program with the University of Kentucky’s Office of International Affairs.
