Message from the Commander

Col. Mark F. Migaleddi

Col. Mark F. Migaleddi

From the Battle of New Orleans during the War of 1812 to the Battle of Fallujah in Iraq, the Arsenal has with distinction, professionalism, and a strong sense of duty supported our Nation’s warfighters for nearly 200 years. We are the Nation's premier cannon manufacturer and the strength of the Army.

We take great pride in being one of the few remaining government-owned and operated manufacturing centers in the Department of Defense. Where other manufactures have failed, the arsenal has survived. I believe our ability to survive is due to our historically proven skill to quickly transform capability and capacity to meet the urgent demands of our country.

In addition to the more than 600 Department of the Army Civilians, who are directly tied to the manufacturing of mortar tubes, tank cannons, and artillery barrels are another 275 personnel who work in the Army's Benét Laboratories that is collocated on the Arsenal. By having those who do the research, design, and prototype development (Benét Labs) within a five minute walk to those who do the manufacturing (Watervliet Arsenal Production), we support a one-stop manufacturing process that is unparalleled anywhere in the defense industry.

I am truly honored to be the 57th commander of the historic Arsenal. I readily accept this responsibility and know that I must live up to the high standards of my predecessors. After all, the former commanders built it and on my watch we will improve it.
