NAVAHCS benefits from the services of over 700 individual volunteers each year. Over 40 volunteers are on duty each day helping to make this a health care center of excellence. Volunteers of all ages and life experiences serve in many capacities at NAVAHCS.

Hours of Operation: Monday through Friday, 8:00-4:30 p.m. (except federal holidays).

Location: Building 15, Room 101.

Eligibility: Must be at least 13 years old, have a cleared TB test and completion of volunteer orientation.

It is a policy of the Northern AZ VA Health Care System not to allow any individual to volunteer who has been convicted by the court of law within the past 10 years.

Volunteer Application Process:

Everyone is required to fill out an application for volunteering. You may pick up an application in Building 15 of the Medical Center or request to have one mailed, faxed or e-mailed to you. After successful completion of the packet, a Voluntary Services specialist will schedule you for an orientation. The three-hour orientation provides information related to the policies, functions and objectives of the Medical Center. Orientations run every second and fourth Wednesday of the month at 8 a.m. in Building 15. Volunteer orientations will be cancelled for the month of December due to the holiday season. Any job-specific training will be administered by the assigned supervisor.

All volunteers should bring two forms of identification to the orientation and are required to receive a tuberculin skin test, free of charge.

Acceptable forms of identification:

One photo ID (Driver’s License, VA Card, Passport, School ID) + Government issued ID (Original Social Security card, original birth certificate or a mix of the allowed photo IDs)

*Copies will not be accepted.

Volunteer Benefits:

In addition to the many non-tangible benefits you receive as a volunteer from helping others, NAVAHCS also provides some specific volunteer rewards. If you volunteer for four hours in a day you will receive a complimentary meal at NAVAHCS. All volunteers receive a parking sticker. Throughout the year VA staff make a point of recognizing our volunteer's efforts, but annually volunteers are honored for their hours of service at an awards ceremony and banquet.

Special Events:

Many special events are coordinated through Voluntary Service. These include; National Salute to Veteran Patients, Volunteer Recognition, Memorial Day, Youth Awards Program, POW/MIA Recognition, Veterans Day, United Blood Services Blood Drives, fund raising events, and volunteer training.
