Within the United States, you may also call the State Department's Visa Services' Public Inquiries Branch at 202-663-1225. This number has recorded information with an option to speak with a visa specialist during most business hours. Please note that this is a toll call.

American Citizen Emergencies

Emergency Assistance −  Weekdays, After Business Hours on Weekends and on U.S. and French Holidays.

If you are calling to report the death or serious health issue of an American citizen in France, or about a missing person or child, please call: 01-43-12-22-22 and then dial 0 (zero) when you hear the automated greeting.

If you are calling from the United States, please dial 011-33-1-43-12-22-22, and then 0 (zero).

You may write to the American Citizen Services e-mail boxes which are monitored weekdays during business hours.  Please note that we only reply to questions that cannot be answered by referring to the American Citizen Services website pages; we do not answer French or U.S. visa questions from these email boxes.

The Embassy cannot act as a booking agent for airlines, train companies, or hotels, and travelers should inquire directly with these entities for information about cancelled flights or other disruptions to planned travel.  However, travelers who find themselves stranded or otherwise without resources or means of assistance can contact the Embassy for assistance.
