What is VPP?
OSHA's Voluntary Protection Programs (VPP) is a recognition process for exemplary safety and health management systems. VPP has demonstrated a 25 year track record of consistent effectiveness across a wide range of private sector industries in reducing occupational injuries and illnesses. To that end, the DoD is encouraging the application of VPP principles as a proven means to reduce workplace mishaps and ultimately improve readiness. Approval into VPP is OSHA's official recognition of the outstanding efforts of employers and employees who have achieved exemplary occupational safety and health performance.

tabWhat is the driver? 
The Secretary of the Air Force directed implementation of OSHA VPP throughout the Air Force in March 2006. Secretary Wynne made clear that the VPP would provide the focus to develop "best-in-class" safety and occupational health (SOH) programs.
tabHow is the VPP Executed? 
The AF VPP CONOPS (currently in draft) has been designed to provide MAJCOMs and installations guiding principals and program direction to implement the VPP. The CONOPS is not intended to provide explicit "how to" but rather required execution elements.
tabWhat are the VPP Goals? 
The HAF will monitor VPP execution via the AF Operational Safety Council (AFOSC) or the HAF Environment, Safety, and Occupational Health Council (ESOHC). MAJCOMs will monitor VPP execution through their ESOHCs or their AFOSH Council. Installations will execute the VPP and monitor completion of VPP action plans and milestone phase attainment via their ESOHC or AFOSH Council.
tabWho will participate in the VPP? 
All AF units and AF tenants (including reserve components) on AF installations will normally participate in the host installation VPP.
