Roe Statement on the 40th Anniversary of Roe vs. Wade

Washington, Jan 22 -

WASHINGTON D.C. – Today, Rep. Phil Roe, M.D. (R-TN) released the following statement on the 40th anniversary of Roe vs. Wade:

“Life is the most precious gift given to us. As an OB/GYN I had the unique privilege of delivering over five thousand children into this world. I have born witness to one of the most extraordinary events in our universe, the development of a child from conception to birth. This experience solidified my conviction in the right to life for our nation’s most vulnerable population: the unborn.

“As members of Congress, we carry a responsibility and duty to protect those who do not have a voice. As our fourth president and architect of our Constitution, James Madison, once warned, the rights of the minority must be protected. The unborn children of America represent our greatest silent minority. They are the most innocent amongst us, and deserve the protection we afford all other people in this great country.

“A majority of Americans agree. Last May, Gallup reported that fewer Americans than ever viewed themselves as pro-abortion. Meanwhile, a majority of Americans, just over 50 percent, describe themselves as pro-life. Similarly, 51 percent believe that abortion is morally wrong.

“Life is a precious miracle that begins at conception. As a doctor I can personally attest to this after witnessing thousands of small, new hearts beating on an ultrasound screen. One of government’s most important duties is to protect the most vulnerable among us, and I pledge to continue to remember and strive towards this. I am heartened that so many others today choose to do the same.”
