The Environmental Standards Division has an e-mail listserv through the Coast Guard List Server. This is an informal means to notify stakeholders of Federal Register notices and other updates.
To subscribe:
1. Click on the following link: http://cgls.uscg.mil/mailman/listinfo/environmentalstds.
2. You only need to complete your e-mail address. The name and password may be left blank and the system will generate one for you. The section regarding a daily digest should remain "No".
3. Once complete, click "Subscribe" and follow the activation instructions in the confirmation notice that you will receive.
Under the direction and supervision of the Chief, Office of Operating and Environmental Standards (CG-OES), the Chief, Environmental Standards Division (CG-OES-3) shall:
Serve as principal environmental advisor for all offices within the Commercial Regulations and Standards Directorate (CG-5PS), to integrate environmental issues in the development of all standards and public policy.
Develop and maintain standards, regulations, and guidelines for industry, the states, and the public, to implement laws and treaties on marine environmental protection.
Coordinate with appropriate federal, state and international organizations to minimize conflicting environmental requirements. Organizations include EPA, state natural resource agencies, and the International Joint Commission.
Serve as CG-5PS's principal focal point for environmental liaison, coordination, and concurrence as required by international conventions or Congressional legislation, where issues involve standards.
Represent the U.S. interests in national and international organizations to integrate U.S. and international environmental standards. Serve as the Coast Guard representative to the Aquatic Nuisance Species (ANS) Task Force and the National Invasive Species Council (NISC). Serve as Alternate U.S. Representative to the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC), and provide representation as needed to IMO Subcommittees on Bulk Liquids and Gases (BLG), Flag State Implementation (FSI), and Design and Equipment (DE).
Provide technical support and guidance for domestic and international marine environmental protection standards (ISO, ANSI, etc.)
Represent the Coast Guard on the National Research Council 's Marine Board and National Academy of Sciences' Transportation Research Board on matters relating to development of marine environmental standards.
Provide technical assistance to appropriate international organizations on environmental protection, preparedness, and response issues, including the International Maritime Organization (IMO), United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), United Nations Disaster Relief Organization (UNDRO), Organization of American States (OAS), Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) and Commission for Environmental Cooperation (CEC).
