Fiji Certificate of Identity

May 22, 2007

The Department of State has determined that the Fijian Certificate of Identity is not a valid identity document suitable for United States visas.  Fijian applicants for U.S. visas must present a valid Fijian passport at the time of the interview.

The United States has determined that the Fijian CI does not credibly establish the bearer's identity and nationality as required under the definition of a passport established in the Immigration and Nationality Act.  It does not meet international security standards for issuance or design.  Sub-standard security features make the CI extremely vulnerable to alteration, counterfeiting, and impostors.
