Fallen Hero - MSgt. Tara Brown

The official portrait of Master Sgt. Tara Brown, one of OSI's fallen heroes. MSgt. Brown, 33, of Deltona, Fla., died Apr. 26 near Kabul, Afghanistan of wounds sustained from an Afghan gunman who also killed seven other Airmen as well as an American civilian contractor in a shooting spree in the Afghan Air Force compound in Kabul. Prior to January, MSgt. Brown was assigned as the Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge, Client Support Technician for Headquarters Air Force Office of Special Investigations Personnel Division at Andrews AFB, Md. MSgt. Brown was deployed to Afghanistan on Jan. 3, 2011, and was serving a one year tour with NATO Air Training Command as an international trainer on the basic fundamentals on desktop computers and networking to Afghan air force technicians. According to the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan, an Afghan military pilot opened fire on international troops. The shooting occured at the Afghan national air force compound at North Kabul International Airport.

Honoring fallen Airmen

Maj. Traci Wallace, AFOSI 5th Field Investigations Squadron, was the narrator of the ceremonial retreat held at Osan Air Base May 19, to honor Master Sgt. Tara Brown from OSI and Senior Airman Nicholas Alden from security forces. Osan members recently celebrated National Police Week with a weapons and vehicle display and free fingerprinting at the base exchange; a 5k fun-run; and the ceremonial retiring of two Airmen who were killed in the line of duty. Memorial

Col. Keith Givens, Air Force Office of Special Investigations vice commander, left, and OSI Special Agent Bob Powers, place a pin shaped like an OSI badge onto a wreath in honor of OSI's fallen heroes. A group from OSI visited the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial May 16 to place the wreath and to remember all of OSI's fallen heroes. The names of OSI's fallen are chiseled into the memorial along with thousands of other law enforcement professionals who have made the ultimate sacrifice. More than 20,000 friends, family members and colleagues of the fallen are expected to visit the memorial during National Police Week, which runs from May 15-20.
