General Information
The American Citizen Services (ACS) unit of the Consular Section provides information and assistance to the U.S. citizens resident or traveling in Ghana.
Hours of Operation
Passport services (including additional pages), notarial services, and federal benefits services: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m., Wednesdays by appointment only, closed on holidays.
Consular Reports of Birth Abroad (CRBA) of an American citizen in Ghana: Wednesday, by appointment only.
Emergency services related to the serious illness or injury, death, or arrest of an American citizen: Monday - Thursday, 7:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.; Friday 7:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

You should receive two automatic replies acknowledging receipt of your email, and a response to your email within three (3) business days. NOTE: If you did not receive our automatic replies then we did not receive your email. Email is the preferred method of communication.

Notice of Limited Hours:
The Consular Section of the U.S. Embassy in Accra will not open for regular visa or American citizen services on Tuesday February, 26 2013. We will, however, remain open and available for emergency services related to the serious illness or injury, death or arrest of an American citizen on this day.

The Bank of Ghana announced that the old GH¢50 banknotes ceased to be legal tender after September 30, 2012. The old GH¢50 banknotes were replaced with the upgraded GH¢50 banknotes introduced on August 21, 2012. Please refer to the Bank of Ghana press release of October 16, 2012 (PDF 94 KB) for more details.
Starting November 5, 2012, the U.S. Embassy in Accra, Ghana will no longer accept the old GH¢50 banknotes for payment of visa and American citizen service fees.
