Immigrant Visas Application Procedures
Immigrating to the United States to live permanently is an important and complex decision. This section provides information to help foreign citizens desiring to permanently immigrate to determine the visas, requirements and related materials they will need to apply to live legally in the United States.
You may qualify to immigrate to the United States if you are:
- A spouse or immediate relative of an American citizen or legal permanent resident
- The fiancé of an American citizen
- A prospective employee of a United States company
- Selected through the Diversity Visa (DV) lottery program
- Selected for the immigrant investor program
- An immediate family member of a refugee or asylee

All petitioners must file with the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Customs and Immigration Service, via the Chicago Lockbox. For instructions on filing an Immigrant Visa petition.
