The U.S. Embassy in Riga welcomes your submissions for an opportunity to visit the United States! We invite video submissions from students aged 16 - 18 on the topic “What defines a leader.” There will be prizes for the top ten video submissions. Benjamin Franklin Transatlantic Fellows Summer Institute*

Video submissions will be judged based on the following criteria:

  1. Script- how closely the video covers the topic
  2. Creativity- the overall originality of the video; use of original ideas, illustrations, and style
  3. Coherence- does the video meet the objective of the contest
  4. Overall Video Quality- accuracy, clear audio and message

Video submissions will be judged by a panel of Embassy representatives and USG exchange program alumni.

Candidate qualifications:

  • Between 16-18 years of age as of July 1, 2013;
  • Highly proficient in English;
  • Willing and able to participate in educational program in the U.S.
  • Committed to enrolling in high school or university in Latvia in fall 2013

Requirements for the video submission:

  • Each video should be 1-5 minutes in length and not exceed 200 MB
  • Upload you video to www.failiem.lv or another file sharing site and email the download link to us.embassy.riga@gmail.com
  • Include in the email your name, address, school and contact information
  • In the email’s subject line include the words “Video Contest”

* The Benjamin Franklin Transatlantic Fellows Summer Institute enables teenagers aged 16 to 18 to participate in an exchange program of four weeks focused on the global issues that European and American youth face today. Please note that participation in the 2013 Benjamin Franklin Transatlantic Fellows Summer Institute is conditional upon meeting the program’s requirements, including eligibility for a U.S. visa.
