Doing Business in the USA

U.S. economic sanctions currently ban, with certain exceptions, the importation of goods of Burmese origin.  Despite the May 17 announcement of the suspension of some sanctions with Burma, the the import ban will be kept in place. At the time of writing, any product of Burma (including any jadeite and rubies mined in Burma transformed in third countries) is prohibited from being imported into the United States. It is therefore imperative that American companies consult with both U.S. and Burmese legal counsel prior to engaging in business to ensure that proposed activities do not violate applicable U.S. laws.
