Visas

The United States Mission in Brazil strives to provide the most rapid, efficient and fair visa application process possible. Visa applicants from all regions in Brazil are treated with equal respect and given equal consideration in the visa process. Visa requirements and procedures are the same for the Consulates in Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Recife and the Embassy in Brasilia. Visa information for travel to the United States can be found here: http://brazil.usembassy.gov/visas.html.

Important

  • The consulate has reduced the wait time in visa lines significantly over the past year.  However, please be aware that the consular public waiting area in Sao Paulo is not enclosed and is subject to the elements.  Therefore, we recommend that you dress accordingly and remain hydrated.  If you need to sit down, please alert a greeter who will assist you and will hold your place in the queue.

Please be sure to arrive on time.  The flow of people is coordinated carefully throughout the day based on visa appointment time schedules.  A timely arrival will therefore minimize the time that you spend in line outside as well as inside the consulate.  Please note that if you arrive early or late for your appointment, we cannot allow you to enter because this will inconvenience the other applicants.
