Educational Exchange Programs

The U.S. Embassy in Yemen is pleased to announce the opening of the competition for the Near East and South Asia Undergraduate Exchange Program (NESA UGRAD) for the academic year 2013-2014.

The NESA UGRAD, a program of the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the United States Department of State, provides opportunities for first-, second-, and third-year undergraduate students, as well as students in their final year of secondary school, from the Middle East, North Africa and the South Asia for one semester or one academic year of full-time, non-degree study in the United States.

Candidate Description and Qualifications: Candidates must

Competition for the Near East and South Asia Undergraduate Exchange Program (NESA UGRAD) is merit-based and open to anyone who:

  • Demonstrate excellent English speaking, reading, writing and comprehension skills;
  • Currently be enrolled in an undergraduate degree program or have completed their gap year;
  • Have a sustained high level of academic achievement, as indicated by grades, awards, and teacher recommendations;
  • Not have graduated/completed their final year of undergraduate study before they arrive in the U.S.;
  • Be 18-25 upon arrival in the U.S.
  • Candidate must be a Yemeni Citizen holding a valid passport


A complete application will include the following materials:

  • Application form (PDF_715KB);
  • 2 Letters of reference (PDF_154KB);
  • Supplemental form (PDF_137KB);
  • Translated Academic Transcripts;
  • A scanned, electronic copy of a valid passport with an expiration date of no earlier than May 30, 2014;
  • A TOFEL Score (highly recommended but not mandatory at the application stage
