On October 12, Science journalist Erik Stokstad accompanied USGS scientists Beth Middleton and Karen McKee to the coastal wetlands of Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve south of New Orleans where Middleton and McKee surveyed the impacts of Hurricane Katrina on their research sites. Stokstad is writing for an upcoming special hurricane edition of Science.

A map, “Southeast Louisiana Land Loss,” prepared by USGS National Wetlands Research Center, Lafayette, Louisiana, was used in the September/October 2005 Ducks Unlimited magazine article entitled “America’s Marsh.”

The bird tracking radar research of USGS scientists Wylie Barrow and Lori Randall was mentioned in the article “Tracking Waterfowl by Radar” in the September/October 2005 issue of Ducks Unlimited magazine.
