GUATEMALA CITY—Marines from Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron 467 unload a UH-1N Huey helicopter from a U. S. Air Force Reserve C-5 Galaxy.  Four UH-1N Huey helicopters from HMLA-467 and crews will be participating in Operation Martillo.  The crews are attached to U.S. Marine Corps Forces, South and will be operating on the west coast of Guatemala.  The crews and aircraft are attached to U.S. Marine Corps Forces, South for the duration of the operation and will be used for detection and monitoring.  Detachment Martillo, under operational control of U.S. Marine Corps Forces, South, is comprised of a number of units from II Marine Expeditionary Force.  Operation Martillo is an operation led by Joint-Interagency Task Force-South, of the U.S. Southern Command, and is designed to help stem the flow of narcotics through Central America and its Pacific and Caribbean coasts by denying transnational criminal organizations littorals used for illicit trafficking. PUERTO QUETZAL, Guatemala—Marines with Detachment Martillo talk with one another while setting up communication equipment on Fuerza Espesciales Naval’s 32-foot Boston Whaler Justice boats.  The FEN is a section of the Guatemalan Navy special operations. A CH-53E Super Stallion with Marine Heavy Helicopter Squadron 461 hovers over a M777 155 mm Howitzer while Marines from 3rd Battalion, 10th Marine Regiment, Lima Battery, attach it to the aircraft in support of Exercise Mailed Fist at a range outside of Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, N.C., June 21. MARINE CORPS AIR STATION CHERRY POINT, N.C.-More than 250 personnel departed Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point in support of operations in southern Afghanistan Feb. 1.
“I’m excited, this is my first deployment and a new journey,” said Cpl. Keith A. Hoffee, an embarkation specialist with II Marine Expeditionary Force. “It’s what we do as Marines and I’m finally getting the chance to contribute.”
This large group consisted of personnel from Marine Aviation Logistics Squadrons 40, 26, 14 and 29, 4th Marine Division and an international officer. 
2nd Marine Aircraft Wing (Forward) will conduct aviation operations in order to support the Afghan southwestern regional command combined team.
