Notary Services

The U.S. Embassy can provide notarial services for American citizens and for documents needed for legal purposes in the United States. The consular section does not perform authentications. If you have a document(s) you need notarized, please bring the original document(s) with you. It is your responsibility to ensure that the document is complete and appropriate for its intended purpose. The consular section does not have document samples. Please be sure to bring identification such as your original U.S. passport, driver’s license, or another photo i.d. to confirm your identity. A consular section employee cannot serve as a witness for a notarial service.

The consular section does not notarize birth, marriage or death certificates. If you need an original birth, marriage, or death certificate from the U.S., please contact the appropriate authorities in the U.S. where the original document was issued.

The charge for notarial services is $50 per document, and the fee for each additional copy is $50. Notarial services are performed free of charge if the document is needed for a consular service (e.g. a U.S. passport application, an immigrant visa petition, or a social security application) or for voting in a U.S. election. Notarial services are performed the same day during routine ACS hours.
