    Winter Baseball in Poland!

    America’s national pastime is alive and well in central Poland! Ten high school teams from Poland, Russia, Lithuania, Ukraine, Moldova, and Belarus competed in Poland’s premier indoor baseball tournament from March 2-4 in Działdowo. After three days of hard fought games, [Balashikha Moscow] took home the “President’s Cup” in a 1-0 victory over [Lithuanika Kaunas] on March 4.

    U.S. Embassy Sponsors the Adidas Originals Rocks the Floor!

    For the second year in a row, U.S. Embassy Warsaw sponsored the adidas Originals Rocks the Floor event. This was the second Polish edition of this event. On March 2-3, 2012, the Soho Factory in Warsaw was the most important place on Poland’s map of hip hop culture– the key elements of hip hop culture were represented there: MCing, b-boying, DJ-ing, and graffiti.

    On Wednesday, February 22, the American Studies Center at the University of Warsaw hosted a screening of “Miss Representation,” a documentary film by Jennifer Siebel Niewsom. The film explores how the media’s misrepresentations of women in the United States have led to the underrepresentation of women in positions of power and influence.

    February is African American History Month in the United States. As part of our efforts to commemorate the occasion, today the Embassy is sending a U.S. diplomat to a local high school in Warsaw to deliver a presentation on African American woman in U.S. history.

    John Cage Year in Lublin

    The 100th anniversary of the birth of American artist John Cage will be celebrated in Lublin throughout 2012 with a series of events organized by the ”Crossroads” Center for Intercultural Creative Initiatives (Ośrodek Międzykulturowych Inicjatyw Twórczych “Rozdroża”) and the American Studies Department at Maria Curie-Skłodowska University (MCSU) in Lublin.
