Suggested Competency Models for Job Series
NIH has created suggested competency models for a variety of occupational series. Employees and supervisors have the flexibility to decide which competencies are most necessary for success in a position. It is recommended that a custom model is created using a combination of competencies from the applicable sections of the NIH Competency Dictionary.

- EEO Assistant (GS-361)
- EEO Specialist (GS-260)
- Ethics Specialty (GS-301 or GS-343)
- General Administration (GS-301)
- Grants Management (GS-1101 or GS-1109)
- Human Resources (GS-201)
- Immigration Specialist (GS-301)
- Information Technology Management (GS-2210)
- Program/Management Analysis (GS-343)
- Public Affairs (GS-1035)
- Security Specialist (GS-080)
- Safety and Occupational Health Specialist (GS-018)
- Technical Writer Editor (GS-1085)
- Training Administrator (GS-1712)
- Writer Editor (GS-1082)
If there is not a suggested model for an occupational series, it is recommended that the appropriate competencies are selected from the NIH Competency Dictionary.
