Proper Disposal of Prescription Drugs

  • Address: 59 PSQ, 2200 Bergquist Dr. Ste 1, Lackland AFB TX 78236-9908
  • POC: 59th Pharmacy Squadron
  1. Take your unused or expired medications out of their original container, place them in a sealable bag or empty can, mix them with coffee grounds, kitty litter or any other undesirable substance, and place the sealed mixture into the trash. Be sure to destroy all old prescription labels.
  2. Some prescriptions will specifically instruct you to flush any leftover medications on either their label or accompanying patient information due to the high chance they will be used for substance abuse. [EXAMPLES: Actiq (fentanyl citrate), Duragesic Transdermal System (fentanyl), OxyContin Tablets (oxycodone), Meperidine HCl Tablets, Percocet (Oxycodone and Acetaminophen)]
  3. If you have further questions regarding the disposal of medications, contact your local WHASC pharmacy.
