The Zambian government recognizes the role of education in poverty reduction and is making serious efforts to improve and reform the education sector. Zambia is on its way to achieving the Millennium Development Goal of universal primary education.

LUSAKA—Today, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) launched five education projects to improve the reading skills of over one million Zambian primary school children.  USAID education projects are improving reading skills by assisting the Ministry of Education, Science, Vocational Training and Early Education to strengthen education management and information systems, support community schools, counsel children, train teachers, and improve school water and sanitation facilities.

LUSAKA – The United States government, through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), has launched a new education project to support the Ministry of Education, Science and Vocational Training’s work to reform education in Zambia. The Strengthening Educational Performance (“STEP-Up Zambia”) project will assist the Ministry in improving education management and raising academic achievement in reading and math.

LUSAKA – With support from the U.S. government, through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), the Zambia Institute of Mass Communication (ZAMCOM) launched the Newspaper in Education (NIE) program today. The NIE program provides inexpensive, relevant teaching materials and ready-to-use lesson plans to Zambian schools.
