Our Specialty Care Patient Program is divided in two mayor areas Surgery and Medicine.

About Surgery

Our coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) has the best outcomes in the VA system, and other surgical outcomes at VA Caribbean Healthcare System rank among the best in the VA system.

By involving the patient in the decision-making process for select procedures, we make the patient an equal partner in successful outcomes.

All patients are referred to our specialty clinics by Primary Care Providers.

About Medicine

Our Medical Service provides hospital based internal medicine, dermatological and neurological care to the inpatient and outpatient Veteran population as well as subspecialty care in all Internal Medicine subspecialties.  We have an affiliation with the Hematology and Oncology ACGME accredited program at San Juan City Hospital and Neurology ACGME accredited program of the University Hospital. In addition, the Medical Service is an ACGME accredited training program in the following programs sections.

  • Neurology and Emergency Medicine. 

The Medical Service is responsible of 209 acute beds of the VA Caribbean Healthcare System.
