About the Program

The VA Caribbean Healthcare System has an active research and development program.  This program includes studies in the fields of hematology and oncology, infectious diseases, gastroenterology, social work, pulmonary diseases, cardiology, critical care medicine, nephrology, diabetes, primary care, geriatrics, health services, neuropathology, neurology, nuclear medicine, nursing, pharmacy, surgery, urology, rheumatology, spinal cord injury, rehabilitation and an educational program on bioterrorism, all of which enhance VA's ability to provide state-of-the-art medical techniques and treatments to our Veteran patients.  During Fiscal Year 2006, there were 57 Research Principal Investigators working on 220 approved research projects at our Medical Center.
