Pete SFS Airman named best in AF

Among Capt. David Knight’s recent awards are his Air Force level recognition as Outstanding Air Force Security Forces Company Grade Officer and his selection as recipient of the 21st Space Wing’s 2009 Lance P. 21st SW Airman wins 14th AF award

PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. – Senior Airman Olivia Gorman, 21st Contracting Squadron, was recently named as 14th Air Force Airman of the quarter for the second quarter. Among her many achievements, Airman Gorman managed 12 construction projects worth more than $2 million for Peterson and Cheyenne Mountain Air Force Station and she co-authored the Simplified Acquisition of Base Engineering Requirements Construction Guide, which is used to train all personnel. Her effort saved 120 man-hours and was identified as a wing strength during the 2009 operational readiness inspection. (U.S. Air Force photo)

21st SW Airman wins 14th AF award

PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. – A 21st Civil Engineer Squadron civilian employee was recently named 14th Air Force civilian supervisor (category I) of the quarter for the second quarter. Mr. Ed Miller is assigned to the 21st CES as the maintenance supervisor for the structures shop. His leadership and supervision directly impacted the entire major command through the installation of digital security locks at Air Force Space Command headquarters. His leadership was also demonstrated on base as he oversaw the refurbishment of The Club dining and buffet area multiplying the serving capabilities by 200 percent. Mr. Miller’s prior active duty military pride was observed as he procured 110 U.S. flags to be displayed during national holidays while facing the challenge of fiscal year budget constraints. Peterson library wins award

Library patrons use the computers at the Peterson library Sept. 16. The library received the Department of Defense Morale, Welfare and Recreation Premier Status Award at an annual DoD library workshop in July. The library is one of seven throughout the Air Force to win the award for exceeding core MWR standards. The library offers 18 computer stations with commercial Internet access and Wi-Fi amongst its many resources. (Air Force photo by Thea Skinner)

Combat Action Medal

PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. -- Col. Jay Raymond, 21st Space Wing commander, presents the Air Force Combat Action Metal to Tech. Sgt. Brandon Richardson, 21st Civil Engineer Squadron, and Senior Airman Grant Schneider, 21st CES Aug. 6. The medal is given to Airmen who have been involved in direct fighting situations where they risked their lives in an enemy engagement. Wildfire Academy

Firefighters participating in the Wildfire Academy, hosted by the 721st Civil Engineer fire department, dig a fire line or “stop line” at Fort Carson during a training exercise. Stop lines are fire control measures designed to cut off a wildfire before it spreads. Approximately 100 enlisted and civilian fire fighters from Peterson, Cheyenne Mountain and other local federal, state and local agencies took part in the week-long training academy which culminated with a 100 acre live fire exercise conducted at Fort Carson and was designed to promote first responder teamwork.
