Embassy Partners with Defense Ministry and National Armed Forces for Epidemiology Survey

In partnership with the Defense Ministry and Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), the U.S. Embassy Office of Defense Cooperation (ODC) held a workshop February 5 to review the National Dissemination of 2012 TNI Integrated Biological and Behavioral Surveillance (IBBS) Results.  The keynote speakers at the workshop included Deputy Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, Deputy Minister of Health Ali Ghufron, and Secretary General of the National AIDS Commission Dr. Kemal N. Siregar, MPH.  Several high-ranking military officials also were in attendance.

The 2012 IBBS survey enlists the cooperation of several different partners: the Defense Ministry, TNI, U.S. Embassy Office of Defense Cooperation, Health Ministry, and Family Health International 360.  The 2012 survey result of TNI personnel provides current information on HIV/AIDS in the TNI military that can be used to assess ongoing epidemic control efforts and plan strategic future efforts.  The survey was conducted in six priority provinces as identified by the Government of Indonesia: DKI Jakarta, East Java, West Java Riau Islands, Bali, and Papua.
