Sen. Toomey Names Sen. Mike Lee As Vice Chairman Of Senate Steering Committee
WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Senator Pat Toomey (R-Pa.) named U.S. Senator Mike Lee (R-Utah) as vice chairman of the Senate Steering Committee, a caucus of conservative senators that includes the majority of the Republican Conference. Sen. Lee will begin serving in this role immediately.
"Sen. Mike Lee is a knowledgeable and principled movement conservative, and I'm very excited he is taking on the position of vice chairman," said Sen. Toomey, the chairman of the Steering Committee. "It has been a privilege to work with Sen. Lee over the past two years and I have complete confidence that he will continue to excel as a leader in this role. With Mike and the other Steering members we will continue to work to advance innovative conservative principles."
"I am honored to serve as vice chairman of the Steering Committee and will work alongside Sen. Toomey to promote strong conservative values in the Senate," said Sen. Lee.
Established in 1974, the nonpartisan committee provides a forum where senators can work together to discuss and promote conservative legislation and policies.
Senator Toomey was named Steering Committee chairman in April 2012.
Past Senate Steering Committee chairmen include Phil Gramm (R-Texas), Jon Kyl (R-Ariz.) and Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.).
