The American Consulate in Adana has been an active part of the United States Mission in Turkey for almost one hundred and fifty years. The first U.S. Consular representation in southeastern Turkey was established in 1858 when a U.S. consular agency opened its doors in the ancient port city of Iskenderun, then known as Alexandretta. The Consular Agency, which was then under the direction of the U.S. Embassy in Beirut, was relocated to Aleppo (now in Syria) in 1908 until the Consulate officially closed in 1924. In 1958, the American Consulate reopened in Iskenderun and moved to Adana in 1961, where we remain today.
